Chulevi Monastery
Chulevi Monastery is located in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region (with center in Akhaltsikhe) in seven kilometers from a settlement called Adigeni, near the slopes of Persati Mountains. The west side of the Monastery site is crossed by the river Chulela running from Persati Mountains.
Chulevi Monastery was founded in the 14th century near old Georgian
historical places: Zanavi, Chorchani, Odrkhe (present Abastumani), Zarzrna and Golden Castle.
The name "Chulevi" takes its origin from Georgian word "Churi". It means "place among hills" and is precise for the location of the Monastery. The name of the monastery is used in three different variations: "Chule", "Chulevi" and "Chulebi". Today "Chulevi" is used most widely.
