The museum of the famous Georgian writer, writer of political essays and the public figure Ilia Chavchavadze was opened in 1987, on the 150th anniversary of his birth.
The museum occupies three floors of the house where the writer lived together with his wife - Olgha Guramishvili and sister - Elisabeth in 1889-1901. The printing house of the newspaper "Iveria" was also located in this building.
The visitors are able to see thematically presented expositions: Ilia and Russia, Ilia and Spain, Ilia and Adjara, in every room the photos and paper extracts all are thematically exhibited. The amount of the photos of the foreign and Georgian public figures is so great that a day is not enough to see everything.
The living room is the most attractive, where the best representatives of the Georgian society used to gather every Thursday in the second half of the 19th century. The dining room is very cozy, the old furniture, household facilities chosen by the writer himself are kept in the museum.
